A little mischief in your glass.

Blueberry Lavender Margarita
Blueberry Lavender Margarita

A blueberry lavender margarita combines tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and blueberry-lavender syrup. Its rich berry color makes it a festive cocktail for Halloween or a Día de los Muertos gathering. This recipe includes instructions for one drink or a batch of 50 cocktails for 25 guests.

Some cocktails arrive at the party. This one makes an entrance.

Deep berry color. A bright pink rim. A dried citrus wheel and a little floral skull peeking over the glass. This blueberry lavender margarita has just enough drama to become part of the decorations—and you get to drink it.

I started with the Clever Parties Bar Planner, asking for a blueberry lavender margarita for 25 people. It asked a useful follow-up: how many drinks per person? My answer—two—turned the idea into a plan for 50 cocktails.

Then came the fun part: making it my own. For the version pictured here, I added a pink sparkling rim, a large round ice cube, and a colorful skull pick. The drink already had the color. A few finishing touches gave it a personality.

What is a blueberry lavender margarita?

A blueberry lavender margarita combines tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and blueberry-lavender syrup. Blueberries bring fruit and rich color; lavender adds a floral note to the familiar citrus combination.

The trick is keeping the lavender in the background. You want a hint of flowers, not a glass that reminds you of the soap counter.

One drink, two ways to set the scene

For Halloween, lean into the moody berry color: dark cocktail napkins, candlelight, dried citrus, and a sparkling pink rim. It feels a little mysterious without requiring a whole collection of novelty barware.

For a Día de los Muertos gathering, the same drink can sit alongside vivid flowers, colorful table details, and calavera-inspired decorations like the floral skull pick shown here. Día de los Muertos is a celebration of remembrance and loved ones; this is a contemporary cocktail to serve at your gathering, rather than a traditional holiday recipe.

Let the occasion guide the styling. The margarita can bring the color either way.

Blueberry lavender margarita recipe

Makes: 1 cocktailPrep: About 5 minutes with chilled syrup ready

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces tequila blanco

  • 1 ounce orange liqueur, such as Cointreau or triple sec

  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice

  • ¾–1 ounce blueberry-lavender syrup, to taste

  • Ice

  • Edible pink sanding sugar or cocktail rimming sugar

  • Dried citrus wheel and blueberries, optional

How to make it

  1. Run a lime wedge around half the rim of a rocks glass. Dip the moistened edge into pink rimming sugar.

  2. Add the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and ¾ ounce syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  3. Shake until well chilled. Taste and add a little more syrup if you prefer it sweeter.

  4. Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.

  5. Finish with a dried citrus wheel, blueberries, or a decorative cocktail pick.

A half rim gives guests the option of a sweet sip or a clean edge. It also keeps the sparkle from taking over the drink.

Make the blueberry-lavender syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

  • 1 cup water

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon dried culinary lavender

Instructions

  1. Combine the blueberries, water, and sugar in a small saucepan.

  2. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer for about 10 minutes, gently crushing the berries.

  3. Remove from the heat. Add the lavender and steep for 3–5 minutes, tasting as you go for a light floral flavor.

  4. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer and discard the solids. Cool, then refrigerate in a clean, covered container.

Use lavender labeled for culinary use. The finished syrup quantity will vary with simmering and straining, so measure it before mixing a party batch.

Make a batch for 25 guests

Planning two cocktails per guest means 50 cocktails total. Using rounded metric measures keeps this party batch easy to measure:

Ingredient

Amount for 50 cocktails

Tequila blanco

3 liters—four 750 ml bottles

Orange liqueur

1.5 liters—two 750 ml bottles

Fresh lime juice

1.5 liters

Blueberry-lavender syrup

1.2–1.5 liters, to taste

For the syrup, multiply the small recipe by six, then measure the strained result. Reserve any extra rather than automatically adding it all.

Combine the cocktail ingredients, starting with the smaller syrup quantity, and refrigerate. The mixture makes approximately 7.2–7.5 liters before ice, so divide it among several covered pitchers or use a food-safe container with at least 9 liters of capacity.

For each cocktail, measure 145–150 ml—about 5 ounces—of the mixture, shake with ice, and strain over fresh ice. Shaking adds the dilution that helps balance the drink. Taste a chilled, shaken sample before adjusting the sweetness of the full batch.

Keep the reserve mixture refrigerated and replenish a small serving pitcher as needed. Add ice to individual drinks, rather than leaving it to melt into the whole batch.

The finishing touches do the work

You do not need an elaborate bar to make this feel like a signature cocktail. Choose a few details and repeat them:

  • A pink rim: It gives the dark berry drink a bright, playful edge. Use an edible product intended for food or drinks.

  • Dried citrus: A ready-to-use garnish with texture and a slightly moody look.

  • One decorative pick: The floral skull in my version brings the whole glass together.

Set out the garnishes before guests arrive, chill the mixture, and make the first glass your example. The rest is much easier when you have already decided what “finished” looks like.

Give your party its own signature drink

This started with a question in the Clever Parties Bar Planner and ended with something I could put on my own table.
